MEYER WERFT GmbH

MEYER WERFT in Papenburg/Germany was founded in 1795 and has been family-owned for six generations. Today Bernard Meyer is managing partner of the shipyard. During the past decades MEYER WERFT has acquired a worldwide reputation for the construction of highly sophisticated ships, particularly cruise vessels, luxury car/passenger ferries, roll-on/roll-off ships, passenger vessels like river cruise ships, and gas tankers.

Passenger Ships - High-Tech Afloat

Over the last 20 years the yard has delivered cruise ships like "SuperStar Virgo", "Aurora", "Radiance of the Seas", "Norwegian Jewel" and others for Royal Caribbean, P&O Princess, Star Cruises, Celebrity Cruises and other customers in the cruise business.

MEYER WERFT also has a reputation as a specialist for the construction of Ro-Ro ships and ferries such as the latest project "Pont Aven". This new, highly modern ferry (41,000 gt) for the French operator Brittany Ferries carries up to 2,300 passengers and offers space for 650 cars (approx. 3,500 lane meters) and 85 trucks.

In addition, MEYER WERFT has built more than twenty passenger ships for the Republic of Indonesia since 1983. This kind of ships represents a very successful synthesis of modern equipment and especially strain-resistant technology.

Gas Tankers

The yard also focuses on building gas tankers for the carriage of liquefied gases and chemicals. 49 gas tankers have been delivered so far. In 1997/98 MEYER WERFT delivered two gas tankers ("Clipper Viking/Harald") to the Norwegian shipping company Solvang ASA. Until 2010 MEYER WERFT will build eight LEGs /LPGs for Solvang and for the German company Harpain Shipping.

River Cruise Ships

MEYER WERFT's sister company NEPTUN WERFT specialises in the construction of river cruise ships. Six ships were delivered to the German operator A'Rosa. For Premicon, another German customer, two ships are under contract, and three were already delivered.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

In two of the largest covered building docks in the world, quality is the key. With the second covered building dock and the biggest laser technology centre in Europe established in 2001, the yard offers capacities for ships up to 180,000 gt. Modern CAD tools, four large laser units with an output of 12 kW each as well as the 600-ton and 800-ton cranes guarantee the success of MEYER WERFT.

Know-How

The MEYER WERFT management consists of a team of six persons. The yard employs approx. 2,300 people, everyone a specialist in his field. The shipyard ensures permanent advanced training of its staff to ensure its leading position in the industry. The order book includes eight cruise ships and eight gas tankers. This schedule will keep the yard occupied until spring 2010.
